Play it Safe

In over 90% of rape cases, the victim knew the perpetrator. Rape does not always involve a masked intruder or a dark alley. Here are some tips to avoid acquaintance, or date rape:

1. Establish clear limits for sexual behavior with your partner.
2. Clearly communicate these limits to your partner or date.
3. Avoid sending mixed messages that may confuse a verbal "no" with actions that encourage sexual advances.
4. Firmly tell your date or partner to stop when you are experiencing unwanted sexual/physical advances.
5. Respond by making a scene. Make loud noises and resist if the person does not stop.
6. Avoid dating or friendships with people who are controlling and demanding.
7. Avoid drinking alcohol and using other drugs that can interfere with your judgment and response.
8. Avoid being in places where your calls for help will not be heard and help may be unavailable if unwanted sexual advances do occur.
9. If your date is making you uncomfortable, skip the politeness. Think of your safety!

Even though it might be embarrassing to make a big deal out of how you feel uncomfortable, it is your right. You should always be in control of your body. Good advice!
